Columbia shows its PRIDE this weekend in arts district

Columbia bounces back from the explosive 4th of July festivities by hosting its first PRIDE event, as well as the chance to revisit a popular TV icon, movies and more.
1. Maury PRIDE Block Party at the CAB
Although PRIDE Month has ended, Columbia plans to celebrate in its own way this weekend by throwing its first PRIDE Block Party in the city s arts district.
Saturday s event is scheduled to start at 4 p.m. at the Columbia Arts Building, located at 307 W. 11th St., and will feature activities for all ages, including live music by April Lowe, food trucks and several local vendors, including the Little Juice Co., What a Load of Scrap, Kaleidoscope Columbia and others. ....

It seems each month that passes has been a slow buildup to the return of what we once considered normal, and it s never been more apparent than what s happening in May.
While it ll probably be a while before COVID-19 isn t automatically part of the conversation when discussing events involving large crowds, we re starting to see more opportunities to go out and enjoy the things we once loved. Let s just hope it stays the course and that we don t end up shooting ourselves in the foot by being hasty.
I don t believe that will be the case given the amount of people who have already received their vaccinations, and how there have already been several events with crowds and people gathering about in large numbers.  ....

This weekend s roundup of Maury County events is all about getting outdoors and enjoying a little Mother Nature, as well as lots of entertainment and fun.
1. Earth Day events
Earth Day is all about getting out and being in nature, which can be both fun and educational for all ages.
Columbia Parks & Recreation will host Eco Engagement at Riverwalk Park from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday. Bring the kids out for a fun day full of crafts, demonstrations, nature walks and other activities.
Spring Hill Parks & Recreation will host an event for young archeologists and those who like to get their hands dirty. Its Can You Dig It? event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Evans Park and will feature lots of hands-on art and other activities, such as sifting through sand to find fossils, geodes and arrowheads. Other activities will include exploring the swamp to look for lizards, frogs and ot ....
