How to Set Yourself Up for Success With Dry January Hilary Sheinbaum
Dry January has some running-related roots. Back in 2011, a woman living in the U.K. named Emily Robinson signed up for her first half marathon. In preparation for the long run, she decided to cut out alcohol specifically, during her January training, creating a dry month. Her experiment was a success: She reported losing weight, feeling increased energy, and sleeping better.
But the Dry January tradition can be traced further back to 1942 Finland started the program Raitis Tammikuu (“Sober January”) to aid in the war effort against the Soviet Union.
