Return, the ship was sunk by enemy torpedos and 900 sailor, including harold, spent five days in the water trying to fight off a swarm of sharks. It was a scene made famous in the movie jaws. I dont know how many shark, maybe a thousand. It was a bad experience. There was nothing good about it. Every time you looked around, somebody was gone. Reporter harold was one of the 300 who were saved and is now the last living survivor of that harrowing experience. The statue portrays him as that young sailor full of confidence with a little bit of swagger. This monument sits as a beacon of inspiration reminding us of the courage and resilience that defines the human spirit. Reporter later he became a bene esha police officer, fondly remembered for a 19year career helping local kids.
