Night shift differential pay for gov't workers OK'd

(File photo) MANILA - Government employees will now be receiving a night shift differential pay, according to a new law signed by President Rodrigo Duterte. Republic Act (RA) No. 11701, signed by Duterte on April 13, grants a night shift differential pay to government employees including those in government-owned or -controlled corporations (GOCCs) working between the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. "Government employees occupying position items from Division Chief and below, or their equivalent, including those in government-owned or -controlled corporations, whether the nature of their employment is permanent, contractual, temporary, or casual, shall be paid night shift differential at a rate not exceeding 20 percent of the hourly basic rate of the employee, as determined by the head of the agency, for each hour of work performed between the hours of 6 in the evening and 6 in the morning of the following day," the law read. BOC-Port of Zamboanga destroys P110-M smuggled cigarettes

(Photo courtesy of BOC-Port of Zamboanga) MANILA-The Bureau of Customs (BOC)-Port of Zamboanga has destroyed approximately 3,110 master cases and 1,372 reams of imported smuggled cigarettes with an estimated value of PHP110 million. According to Segundo Sigmundfreud Barte Jr., District Collector of the Zamboanga port, the condemnation of the illegal items was conducted in a customs-rented warehouse in Baliwasan, Zamboanga City on May 5, 2022. Among the items destroyed were more than 3,110 master cases of cigarettes seized in separate anti-smuggling operations and Customs checkpoints in the Zamboanga Peninsula and Basulta (Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi) from December 2021 to March 2022. The activity was also witnessed by representatives from the local government units, heads of partner law enforcement agencies, representatives from the Commission on Audit, the Department of Health, and other concerned stakeholders. MRT-3 passengers reach 320K, higher than pre-pandemic average

(PNA photo by Joey Razon) MANILA - A total of 320,844 passengers have taken a ride aboard the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) on Wednesday, higher than the pre-pandemic average of around 250,000 to 300,000 passenger per day in March 2020. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the MRT-3 said Wednesday's ridership is also the largest number of passengers the MRT-3 has served in a single day since it resumed operation amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in June 2020.
