(PNA photo) MANILA - The Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3) completed the overhaul of 52 of its train cars as part of its efforts to ensure the safety and proper operation of its rolling stock and increase the number of operational trains. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the MRT-3 said out of the 72 train cars that need to be overhauled, only 20 remain unfinished. "Sa ilalim ng overhauling, pinapalitan ng mga bagong piyesa ang mga depektibong components ng mga bagon o train cars at pinipinturahan ding muli ang loob at labas ng mga ito (As part of the overhaul, new parts are used to replace defective components and both the interior and exterior of these train cars are repainted)," the MRT-3 said. In a Facebook post on Thursday, the MRT-3 said Wednesday's ridership is also the largest number of passengers the MRT-3 has served in a single day since it resumed operation amidst the Covid-19 pandemic in June 2020. "Ito ay resulta ng pagpapatupad ng libreng sakay sa MRT-3 at pagpapatakbo ng mas maraming train set (This is the result of the MRT-3's free ride program and having more trains running)," the MRT-3 said. To date, there are 19 three-car Czech-made CKD trains and two four-car CKD trains running at the MRT-3 during peak hours. Each three-car trains are capable of carrying a maximum of 1,182 passengers at any given time, while the four-car trains can carry up to 1,576 passengers. Since the completion of the MRT-3's reha

This is the highest since the rail service resumed operations amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) pandemic in June 2020. In a Facebook post, the MRT-3 said the increase in the number of passengers may have been the result of its "Libreng Sakay (free ride)" program and its increased maximum passenger capacity through the addition of two four-car Czech CKD trains and one Chinese Dalian train, aside from 18 three-car CKD trains regularly in operation. Each four-car train, it said, is capable of carrying up to 1,576 passengers, an increase of 394 passenger capacity from its three-car trains. On average, it said 18 to 21 trains are running at the MRT-3 at any given time. After the completion of the MRT-3's rehabilitation, its trains are now running at a maximum speed of 60 kilometers per h
