Town officials, civic leaders sound the alarm on affordable housing The lack of affordable and workforce housing in Southold Town, for years a critical issue facing local officials, has grown far worse since the real estate boom of the past year. That was the unmistakable message at Wednesday night’s affordable housing discussion on Zoom sponsored by North Fork civic associations. More than 60 people listened in, spoke or passed along electronic questions to the main speakers. “The issue of affordable housing impacts the entire community,” said Pat Lutsky, co-chair of the town’s Affordable Housing Commission, who participated in the panel discussion. ....
Starting this fall, Bloomington officially will celebrate Indigenous Peoples’ Day the second Monday of each October. The Bloomington City Council unanimously passed the ordinance during its meeting Monday night. And, with a 5-4 vote, the council also OK d a resolution calling on other Illinois communities, as well as state and federal leaders, to end Columbus Day as a holiday, and replace it with Indigenous Peoples’ Day. Besides the Columbus Day-related items, the council heard a preview about the upcoming fiscal 2022 budget from Bloomington finance director Scott Rathbun. This spring, staff will tweak the $245-million budget, and the council will finalize it in mid-April. ....

According to town planning documents, the developers of Harvest Pointe seek to change the floor plans to add second floor living space in eight new units. The change would bring the square footage for each unit from 1,599 to 1,999 square feet, according to the application. ....
