Team of doctors with the baby. MANGALURU: A three-day-old baby was operated on successfully at A J Hospital for a rare congenital heart disease. The baby Padma (name changed) was referred to AJ Hospital with complaints of bluish discolouration of lips and fingertips, along with poor feeding and lethargy, said Dr Prashanth Marla, medical director, AJ Hospital and Research Centre. “The baby girl was evaluated by Dr Prem Alva, an interventional paediatric cardiologist. The baby had a low oxygen level of 58%, and was diagnosed to have the heart on the right side of the chest. The blood vessel arising from the heart to the lungs was totally blocked, which is a condition called pulmonary atresia. Meanwhile, the baby also had a large hole in the heart,” Dr Marla said. ....
Representative image MANGALURU: There is a gradual rise in the number of people participating in the Covid vaccination drive in Dakshina Kannada district. After recording a low turnout initially, 62.08% of people were vaccinated on Wednesday. On Tuesday, vaccination coverage was 58%. RCH officer Dr BV Rajesh told TOI that 681 people were vaccinated in the district on Wednesday as against a target of 1,097, registering 62.08%. Vaccination was carried out in 12 sites, including six PHCs, Puttur government hospital and four private hospitals. At Father Muller Medical College Hospital 100 people received the shot, while at Adarsha Hospital, Puttur, 94 out of 100, AJ Hospital, 80 out of 100 and at Aladangady PHC 64 out of 75 were vaccinated, he said. ....
