Guwahati: The Assam government on Monday tabled a Bill in the Legislative Assembly to abolish all state-run madrassas by converting them into general schools from 1 April next year.
Despite an united Opposition raising objections on tabling of the Bill, Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introducted The Assam Repealing Bill, 2020 on the first day of the three-day winter session. ....

The Assam government on Monday tabled a Bill in the Legislative Assembly to abolish all state-run Madrassas by converting them into general schools from April 1 next year.
Despite a united Opposition raising objections, state Education Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma introduced The Assam Repealing Bill, 2020 on the first day of the three-day winter session. The legislation proposes to abolish two existing Acts The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation) Act, 1995 and The Assam Madrassa Education (Provincialisation of Services of Employees and Re-Organisation of Madrassa Educational Institutions) Act, 2018. ....

Opposition protests against rejection of 2 adjournment motions, Assam House adjourned for brief period

The Assam Assembly was adjourned for 10 minutes on the first day of the Winter Session Monday after the opposition protested against the rejection of their two adjournment motions on encroachment of lands owned by indigenous people, and new farm laws enacted by the Centre.
Speaker Hitendra Nath Goswami did not allow the raising of the motion on technical grounds which led to noisy scenes.
The opposition rushed to the Well of the House and showed placards, which was countered by sloganeering by BJP MLAs from their seats. The first notice was served by Leader of the Opposition in the House Debabrata Saikia of the Congress, and seven others on encroachment of lands owned by indigenous people across the state. ....
