INEC holds federal, state constituency bye-elections June 19 Published 8 May 2021 The Independent National Electoral Commission has fixed a date for bye-elections to fill the vacant Gwaram Federal Constituency in Jigawa State at the House of Representatives and the Sabon Gari State Constituency seat in the Kaduna State House of Assembly. The polls are to hold on June 19, 2021. The National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, INEC, Mr Festus Okoye, made this known in separate statements on Friday. In a statement titled, ‘Conduct of Bye-Election in Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State,’ INEC said it had received a communication from the National Assembly in which the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila, declared the seat for the Gwaram Federal Constituency vacant, following the death of a member, Yuguda Hassan Kila, on March 4, 2021.

INEC fixes June 19 for Jigawa, Kaduna bye-elections

The developments followed the death of the member representing Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State in the House of Representatives, Hon. Yuguda Hassan Kila on 4 March 2021, as well as the declaration of the seat of the member representing Sabon Gari state constituency in Kaduna Assembly, Hon. Aminu Abdullahi Shagali, vacant. According to him, political parties would conduct their primaries between May 18 and 24, 2021, adding that the access code for online submission of nomination forms will be available for collection from May 24, 2021, at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja while the last day for submission of the list of nominated candidates is 28 May 2021 at 6.00 pm.

INEC To Hold Jigawa Bye-Election On June 19

  The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will conduct a bye-election for the Gwaram Federal Constituency of Jigawa State on June 19. INEC Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, Festus Okoye, disclosed this via a statement issued on Friday. He said the decision to conduct the exercise followed the death of the former holder of the office, Hon. Yuguda Hassan Kila on March 4, in which the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila declared the seat vacant. “Consequently, the Commission has fixed Saturday 19th June 2021 for the conduct of bye-election to fill the vacant seat for the said Constituency in the House of Representatives,” the statement partly read.
