We will hit streets if statehood not restored: Bukhari Apni party celebrates foundation day Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, Mar 8: The Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party president, Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari, today said that they will not hesitate to hit the streets, if New Delhi fails to restore the statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing a press conference on the occasion of first foundation day anniversary of J&K Apni party at Srinagar, Bukhari said that much was promised in 1947, but nothing was given back. “We have to fight for the restoration of statehood to J&K. Our demand also is to hold Assembly elections as soon as possible,” he said.

Senior Congress leader Ghulam Nabi Azad, who hails from a village in Jammu and Kashmir and served three years as Chief Minister, drew parallels between himself and Prime Minister Narendra Modi, stating that he has not forgotten his roots and proudly calls himself a chaiwala as well as he does not hide his true self. Speaking at a public event in Jammu, Ghulam Nabi said, I like a lot of things about many leaders. I am from the village and feel proud. Even our Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) hails from the village and used to sell tea. We are political rivals but I appreciate that he does not hide his true self.
