Scottish seafood exports to EU delayed for further five days

Exports of Scottish seafood from smaller companies are to be halted for a further five days by the transport company that handles most of the trade.
That was due to have resumed now but the company has told customers it will not begin again until next Monday.
Paperwork will then have to be approved before consignments can be sent to DFDS s warehouse in South Lanarkshire.
That vast, chilled site in Larkhall is where many smaller batches of seafood are consolidated into truckloads.
It is then transported to the English Channel ports and on to customs and the large market in Boulogne-sur-Mer. ....

Speaking to LBC radio, Alistair Roberts of Brora Fishing in Greenock explained Scottish seafood is being rejected by buyers in Spain, France and Italy due to export delays and back up of lorries after changes in the regulations imposed by Brexit. He said: We always knew there were going to be teething problems at the very beginning but this has ended up a lot worse than what we expected. ....

The warning came from the Scottish White Fish Producers Association CEO Mike Park who told RT News the Brexit deal agreed by Boris Johnson has proved to be atrocious for the fishing industry in Scotland. Mr Park blasted Michael Gove and Scottish Secretary Alister Jack accusing the pair of lying about the greatness of the agreement secured with the EU. He said: If you lose customers and they find a suitable alternative source elsewhere, then there is a possibility you can lose them long term. ....
