a somber resignation by university of missouri school president tim wolf. reporter: i m resigning. reporter: lead to an emotional reaction in the center of campus. for months black students on this overwhelmingly white campus had said racial tensions had been poisoning the atmosphere. a swastika drawn in feces was drawn on the bathroom wall. i had other incidents, and it s time people start listening. reporter: an activist group called concerned of student 1950, named for the year the first black student was admitted to the university. confronted tim wolf last month, and he ignored them. wolf later apologized, but last week jonathan butler began a hunger strike vowing not to eat until wolf was gone. i do appreciate the prayers, the positive thoughts and messages. thank you to the community. [ applause ] reporter: over the weekend, some began calling on wolf to design. but the end of the line may have been a threat by at least 30 black members of missouri s footbal
investigation step by step, working hand in hand with the district attorney s office tonight, as for when, the suspended activities from the football team will resume while the superintendent of school says that s all up in the air right now as this investigation with the police continues tonight. we re live in winthrop, steve cooper, 7news. and we have the latest on a developing story we ve been following. the u.s. coast guard announcing it will suspend its search for the missing crew of the el faro at sunset tonight. elizabeth noreika is here with what else investigators are saying. despite the coast guard s announcements, families are still holding out hope that their loved ones will be found alive. the national transportation safety board is leading the investigation into the ship s sinking. crews will now specifically be looking for the ship s recorder, i would have both audio recordings and basic navigation information such as course and speed. two men from massachu

skies. the growing movement to force the nfl commissioner out of the league. a suspect is killed by a police officer in richmond in the city s first deadly officer involved shooting since 2007. good evening, i m eric rasmussen in for ken wayne and i m heather holmes. police say the officer was aggressive and drunk when he was shot. but, some are wondering if the officer acted too quickly. we get the latest from patty lee. we just received a statement from richmond police patty? reporter: there were a dozen members of the victim s family here, grandparents, cousins who say they dispute the police version of what happened. they were here to leave candles and flowers, but did not want to talk to us on camera. friends wept when they learned 24-year-old richard perez, also known as petey, was killed early this morning. richmond police tell us perez was sicily intoxicated an uncooperative when an officer on foot patrol approached him. the officer asked perez to sit down on
sunday morning. one of the rounds struck the 26-year-old woman in the right side of the face. reporter: a dozen shots were fired from this intersection about a block from where she was sitting while watching a neighbor s seven-year-old daughter. she immediately went down and was that rushed to the hospital by police. she didn t make it and doctors had to perform an emergency c-section. you cannot let your kids play outside no more. like you got to be careful. you got to be watching them 24n7. it s a shame that it happened. reporter: police questioned three different people during the day sunday but no arrests have been made so far. investigators are still trying to determine why the shots were fired in the first place. should you not the intended target. she was unfortunately at the wrong place in that chair at the time when the shooting occurred up the block. she was well spoken. she had manners. reporter: in the meantime a neighborhood mourns the loss of one
