An Easter egg hunt at the Dayville City Park with four age groups ranging from infants all the way up to sixth grade took place following the 5K run.
JOHN DAY — Senator Ron Wyden stopped by the Grant County Airport on Monday, March 25 for the 1080th town hall he’s held since being elected to office, bringing a message of unity and bipartisan cooperation while fielding questions and listening to concerns from Grant County residents.
Wyden highlighted his record of a willingness to cross party lines to get things done. Wyden, a Democrat spoke about his work with the late Republican Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah on Telehealth provisions that were ultimately used by the Trump Administration during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Wyden then talked about his work creating a tax bill with Jason Smith, a Republican House representative from Missouri who is also a member of the Ways and Means Committee. That work resulted in the Tax Relief For American Families and Workers Act; a bipartisan tax structure that proposes a combination of individual tax proposals both the political left and right have typically championed.
JOHN DAY — Grant School District Superintendent Mark Witty is on a mission to leave Grant School District in a better place than he found it.
The district has embarked on an extensive project campaign that will see everything from the heating, ventilation and cooling system (HVAC) at Grant Union Jr./Sr. High School to building access and security within the district upgraded to modern standards. There are currently 13 projects totaling just under $7.5 million in various stages of completion currently underway throughout the district.
Funding for the projects comes from a variety of sources. One source is a Business Oregon Seismic Grant that is being used for the second phase of seismic upgrades at Humbolt Elementary.
