Like long-term and government employees are taken care of. this is a hill we should be willing to die on. among the questions, rank and file republican members are asking is what president trump is willing to sign. that is the million-dollar question, or i should say that is the $5 billion question. i wish we had clarity on that. that would help us decide what to do with congress. there s no consensus right now what the best way forward is. last night the senate passed a six-week government funding extension for about a quarter of the federal government including homeland security. the expectation is the house would take it up today. the speaker of the house says the republicans are in disarray but her members are willing to vote. we re willing to not only support the resolution and support the rule. that s what they re trying to do, bring down the rule. they have a lot of people absent here. they never did have the votes ....
For border security are putting politics over country. what they re beginning to realize is that i will not sign any of their legislation, including infrastructure, unless it has perfect border security, usa wins. there is a lot of frustration both sides of the aisle particularly with republicans who wanted the democrats to come atlong to give them some border security money to help the president tighten up things down at our southern border. bottom line democrats feel like they have leverage. they needed a 60-vote threshold in the senate. they passed a six-week government funding extension and send it over to the house. bill: see if it gets signed. kirsten neilson. what are the expectations for a high profile hearing. you have kirstjen nielsen talking about efforts her department has done to sending the u.s. military there to try to help with efforts to ....
Would build the wall and put it on the spending bill and now we re saying no, no, pelosi will be speaker, it will never happen. the problem is i don t see the democrats paying any price whatsoever for essentially sanctioning open borders and not funding border security. it may be a political fight that will take us into the 2020 election. mr. president, we ll back you up. if you veto this bill we ll be there. but more importantly, the american people will be there. they will be there to support you. bill: mike emanuel is live on the hill. where do things stand at this hour, mike? good morning. we expect later today house lawmakers will vote on the six-week government funding extension. it will not contain the $5 billion for the border wall that president trump has wanted. bottom line the democrats aren t playing ball on that issue. president trump is not giving up hope in terms of getting that border wall. he continues venting on twitter saying the democrats who know steel slat ....
And i think it s very unfortunate. sandra: mike emanuel is live from capitol hill this morning with more. mike, good morning. good morning. senate republicans are saying they re hopeful there will be movement today. it is not clear if it will be on a short term government funding extension or longer term through next september. president trump is tweeting on the topic this morning saying illegal immigration costs the united states more than $200 billion a year. how is this allowed to happen? a key senate republican says he does not see any benefit to a partial government shutdown. i just don t see mrs. pelosi is running the show. i don t think chuck is. i don t think she is going to agree to a single solitaire dime. if we shut down government she ll wait until january 3 and when she is running the show in the house and then send us a budget without a penny for the wall. ....
Deal on a two-year agreement on new spending caps not including immigration. they are expected to raise spending on military and domestic priorities and we heard some bipartisan optimism. senator schumer and i had a good meeting this morning about a caps deal and the other issues we ve been discussing from some for some months now. i m optimistic that very soon we ll be able to reach an agreement. it s an agreement i ve discussed some of the outlines with my caucus that i think we are very happy with and hopefully the republicans are and then we can get something really good done. last night the house passed a six-week government funding extension to run through march 23 to boost military funding through the fiscal year. now it goes to the senate but democrats there are demanding more domestic spending. so if that six-week extension is dead on arrival in the senate the key to unlocking all this seems to be that spending caps agreement. ....
