Former Terrapin Crossroads chef launches new Richmond bistro

Some might be daunted at the prospect of launching a new restaurant amid a pandemic. But backed by 20 years of culinary experience much of which has been spent as the head chef at Terrapin Crossroads in San Rafael Chef Victor Viera swung open the doors to his new family-run Golden Gate Bistro Restaurant in early February. By all accounts, his confident move is paying off with a steady stream of loyal customers.
Located at 803 Wright Ave, Suite 101, in Richmond at the former home of the Golden Gate Grill, Golden Gate Bistro touts itself as “the perfect location for grabbing a delicious, healthy and quick breakfast or lunch on the go” due to its easy access to I-580 and other major thoroughfares like Harbour Way. Per the bistro, they look to partner with local businesses so that they can incorporate fresh and quality ingredients into their menu offerings. ....

East Bay restaurant openings and closings in February 2021

When Nosh posted its list of February openings and closings this time last year, there was very little hint as to the looming pandemic lockdown and ongoing months of crisis soon to come. Looking back now, it is remarkable to note that despite the year’s unparalleled challenges, only three of the 18 East Bay food and drink businesses that opened last February have since closed.
Hard-won resilience stories from that February 2020 list include the resurrected Persian restaurant Alborz in downtown Berkeley; U :Dessert Story, still treating folks on Shattuck Avenue; Oakland’s Shawarmaji, that has since morphed from a pop-up to a popular brick-and-mortar; Nibs, a former El Cerrito favorite now slinging pancakes and burgers in West Oakland; and Arizmendi Emeryville, that overcame more than a year of repai ....
