Are your forecast first. Brad wx wall weather adlib our first winter storm of the season is on the way for friday with central and Northern Iowa to take the worst of this one. Before that happens, we will actually have a pretty quiet night over central iowa as those strong winds die down and skies remain clear until late tonight. That is when clouds will be increasing from the west with the approaching storm. Friday morning will be mainly dry and cloudy across central iowa with precipitation starting up in the afternoon for locations mainly north of the metro. Temperatures here in the metro will start off in the upper 20s, but should rise close to 40 by mid afternoon. That will help keep the snow accumulation away for most of the afternoon with a rain snow mix possible before 5 pm. This will make traveling much more difficult friday night in the metro,
Highway 20 will still see large accumulations with 69 inches possible. The metro should see around 6 to 8 inches of snow, but south of the metro snow totals should be dramatically lower as this system will likely have a sharp cutoff to it. We will still be snowing and accumulating snow going through friday night, but the winds should also pick up causing blowing snow problems and making driving very dangerous. Saturday we will be cold, dry and sunny with highs only in the mid 20s. We stay cold through the weekend but there is some relief next week as temperatures climb back into the 40s and 50s.
