Glass Buttes, located about 75 miles east of Bend, were named for obsidian, the silica-rich volcanic glass, obsidian found in abundance there. Like other rockhounding sites around the state, visitors can collect up to 25 pounds of rocks a day, with a yearly cap of 250 pounds.
