Swimmers could be putting themselves at risk of bacterial infections at more than a third of the wider Manawatū’s waterways this summer. From November to the end of April the Horizons Regional Council tests 70 lakes and rivers, and 11 coastal beaches in the Manawatū-Whanganui region for E.Coli, Cyanobacteria and Enterococci as part of its annual monitoring programme. Of the freshwater swim spots the council identified, 14 are at risk, are positive or don t have data for E.Coli, and 28 are at risk, are positive or don t have data for Cyanobacteria, according to its Safe Swim Spots table. ....
