Trough causes Gladstone's wettest day so far this year


Gladstone has experienced its wettest day so far in 2021 with 45mm of rain falling at the airport between 9am and 5pm on Monday.
Biloela has been very dry compared to Gladstone, with on 0.4mm of rain falling over the same period.
The Bureau of Meteorology released a statement on Monday, April 5 with a downgraded forecast of rain for the Capricornia region.
“A coastal trough lies offshore of the Capricornia, Wide Bay, and Southeast Coast districts, with several embedded low pressure systems,” the statement said.
“The risk that any of these lows will move onshore has now decreased.
“Widespread heavy rainfall is no longer expected over land. ....

BOATIES BEWARE: Gale force wind warning for Capricornia

The Bureau of Meteorology have issued a gale force wind warning for majority of the Capricorn Coast which could impact Easter boating activity.
The warning also extends to the Fraser Island coast, but is expected to be downgraded to a strong wind warning by tomorrow morning.
A Bureau of Meteorology spokesman said it could create some potentially dangerous conditions on the water and urged boaties to take necessary caution.
BOM s weather warning followed news the Gladstone region received between four to seven millimetres of rain overnight.
With 20 to 50mm expected over the next 24 hours across the Gladstone region, the BOM spokesman said we were poised for more rain. ....

WHO GOT THE RAIN?: Gladstone soaked in 24 hours

The Port City has received a decent soaking in the past 24 hours with 88mm of rain recorded at the Gladstone Radar.
Areas surrounding Gladstone also received good rainfall with 69mm recorded at Boyne Island, 57mm at Benaraby and 40mm in Miriam Vale.
Bureau of Meteorology meteorologist James Thompson said the rain was likely to continue into the next two days.
“We’re looking at a trough system in the area for the next 24 to 48 hours,” he said.
“With that we do have an increased risk of heavy rainfalls in the Capricornia district.
“We could see some more heavy rainfall totals over the coming days and the tropical air mass.” ....
