Oklahoma has a new state epidemiologist the fourth person to hold the role since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic the Oklahoma State Department of Health announced Monday, along with two other new hires for positions within the agency.
Jolianne Stone will be the Health Department s new state epidemiologist, replacing Dr. Jared Taylor, who has held the position since August.
Stone previously served as Oklahoma s deputy state epidemiologist and had worked for Integris as an infection prevention manager. She has recently been part of the health department s briefings with reporters about COVID-19 and vaccinations in the state.
Taylor will move into a newly created role with the state health department: chief science officer.

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) Three agencies within the Oklahoma State Department of Health have new leaders, according to a statement from the department.
Deputy state epidemiologist Jolianna Stone will become become state epidemiologist, Dr. Jared Taylor moves from state epidemiologist to chief science officer and Dr. Gitanjali Pai has been appointed chief medical officer.
“These three positions are particularly crucial right now as we strive to learn from the COVID-19 pandemic and improve our response to future pandemics, health Commissioner Dr. Lance Frye said in the Monday statement. I’m confident they’re the right people for the job, and I look forward to working with them to protect the health and wellness of Oklahomans.”
