musician parents performed for presidents and prime ministers in the 70s and 80s
Before they moved to Cooke Town, drummer-guitarist Gerard Machado and his parents and 10 sisters were called the Von Trapps of Mangalore. Alfred Machado, Gerard’s late father, was the first textile engineer of Mangalore who had his own silk handloom and textile business. He was also a musician, composer, singer, actor, songwriter and tap dancer. He and his wife, Edith Machado, who was a gifted painter and songwriter, trained their 10 daughters and one son to sing and play
