Preventing suicide a priority for corrections department | News, Sports, Jobs

The Director of Psychology for the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections said in a statement Wednesday he could not comment on the recent settlement of a federal court case concerning an inmate sucide at the former State Correctional Institution in Cresson, but noted prevention of suicide in the state system remains a priority.
Dr. Lucas Malishchak stated, “We are unable to comment on the settlement, however suicide prevention within the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections continues to be prioritized as one
of the organization’s primary areas of ongoing review
and improvement.”
Malishchak said ongoing reviews of practices and oversight are conducted to ensure the advancement of the DoC’s Suicide Prevention Program. ....

Tenant who fell over retaining wall update: Landlord counters that plaintiff caused his own injuries

PITTSBURGH – A Western Pennsylvania landlord counters that a tenant suing it for negligence connected to his fall over a pair of retaining walls in his apartment parking lot, is solely responsible for his own injuries.
Timothy Stroupe first filed suit in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas on Jan. 11 versus LeDonne Associates Limited Partnership and P.D. & E Associates, Inc., both of Allison Park.
The suit said the plaintiff was a tenant of defendant at the premises and was entitled to utilize the parking lot. Two of the parking spaces located on the parking lot were held in place by a stone retaining wall. The retaining wall did not have a hand railing or guard despite having two iron pipes on the east side of the retaining wall curb and a single iron pipe in the landscape shrubbery beyond the end of the retaining wall. ....

94-year-old Pittsburgh woman files second lawsuit in alleged assault by home health care worker

PITTSBURGH – A 94-year-old woman who was allegedly assaulted by her home health care aide has filed her second lawsuit concerning the events in question in state court.
Bunny Pittsburgh of Pittsburgh filed suit in the Allegheny County Court of Common Pleas on Jan. 19 versus BrightStar Healthcare, BrightStar Care Of Monroeville, New Kensington & SE Pittsburgh and Joann Cargile, also all of Pittsburgh, plus Seba Abode, Inc. (doing business as “BrightStar Care”), of Venetia.
The suit states Bunny lived at Riverview Towers for four-and-a-half years, and in that time, received home health care through defendant BrightStar for over 2 years. On Jan. 23, 2019, Bunny was under the care of defendant Cargile, her home health aide. ....
