Last weekend saw a large gathering descend on Ballarat's avenue of memorials – Sturt Street – for the annual commemoration of the refugee work of Major George Devine Treloar under a beautiful spring sun.
The George Treloar Memorial Committee, in conjunction with Merimna Pontion Kyrion Oceania and Pontiaki Eastia, will hold its annual commemorative service at the Major George Devine Treloar Statue and Memorial in Sturt Street, Ballarat.
The Greek community has missed an opportunity to make the wider Australian public aware of the "catastrophe of Smyrna" which occurred one hundred years ago this September.
