Last weekend saw a large gathering descend on Ballarat's avenue of memorials – Sturt Street – for the annual commemoration of the refugee work of Major George Devine Treloar under a beautiful spring sun.
The George Treloar Memorial Committee, in conjunction with Merimna Pontion Kyrion Oceania and Pontiaki Eastia, will hold its annual commemorative service at the Major George Devine Treloar Statue and Memorial in Sturt Street, Ballarat.
Remembrance of the experience of forced removal, of death and destruction, is vital to anyone considering the impact of the tragedy. But the Asia Minor story is also one of survival, survival against almost insurmountable odds.
