Charleston faces state law allowing gun stores around city | Kanawha Valley

Charleston councilmembers will vote Monday, June 3, 2024, on a zoning amendment allowing gun stores and shooting ranges in any place other retail is allowed. The change comes from a state law passed earlier this year. HB 4782 says municipalities can not restrict gun stores and shooting ranges in places where other retail is allowed. The law officially went into effect Thursday. Geno Chiarelli was a co-sponsor of the bill. Mike Pushkin voted against it. Mary Beth Hoover is reluctantly sponsoring it in the City Council. Jennifer Pharr said the change is a decision for the full council. Deanna McKinney, Brenda Isaac and Natalie Margolis spoke against the amendment.
