Apr. 19 Front-line grocery workers at large stores in Bellingham would get $4 per hour hazard pay, if the Bellingham City Council approves a proposed measure.

Councilwoman Lisa Anderson introduced the measure as an emergency order to start immediately, but she changed it to a regular ordinance and council members decided 4-2 to have a public hearing and further discuss the proposal at its April 26 meeting.

Councilmembers announce they will not run for re-election

BELLINGHAM, Wash.  Two Bellingham City Council members have announced they will not run for re-election this fall.
2nd Ward Councilman Gene Knutson says he won’t seek an 8th term.
He says in a heartfelt email that after serving for 28 years it’s time to pass the torch to new leadership.
Pinky Vargas also says she won’t run again.
The two-term Ward 4 Councilmember says in a Facebook post that she’s started an MBA program at Western Washington University and wants to concentrate on her studies.
