State cites noncompliance in North Chelmsford sewer main break

CHELMSFORD The state has cited the town for violation of sewer regulations compliance, following a March 2020 sewer main break at the Southwell pump station in North Chelmsford.
However, town officials are criticizing the state s response, including some requirements of a consent order, and an unspecified fine amount.
Public Works Director Gary Persichetti and Town Manager Paul Cohen gave an update at the May 24 Select Board meeting.
Persichetti said a meeting between town officials and the Department of Environmental Protection regarding the noncompliance notice is set for June 30.
It s a little disturbing, Cohen said. A year ago.weere out in the field with the Department of Environmental Protection and [pump station contract operator] Sampson and Wesson, and weren t given a heads-up, saying, Hey, you can expect an enforcement letter in a year or so.   ....

Work a 'go' to find PFAS source at North Chelmsford public works site


Steve Jahnle, assistant public works director, gave the board an update on the plans. 
Jahnle said the Department of Environmental Protection has approved plans for exploring the public works site. Jahnle said that the work needs to include discovering the site of a septic system on the premises.
We have no records, he said.  The Board of Health had no records. So, basically, they just want us to do the exploratory testing for the leaching field area, in accordance with what the DEP has required us to do.
Monitoring wells
Jahnle said Weston & Sampson, the licensed site professional doing the work, will mobilize a drilling contractor to prepare for installing monitoring wells. ....
