Despite having plenty of time to fine-tune the booking of COVID vaccinations in Alberta, the online and 811 call centres were overwhelmed. During the three hours that I tried to connect to both sites, I was able to get into the online site twice. After answering the required questions, filling in the information and clicking ’submit’ I got a system error advising me to call 811. That was a futile effort since the number was not answering calls.
Surely Alberta Health should have realized that a quarter of a million eligible seniors vying for a vaccination appointment would crash the system. Breaking that number down either by age or alphabetical order would have been much more sensible.
