Our four Clan Leaders, senior lore women and men, decreed we were to enter into agreement on the red soil of Dharriwaa. I thought that place more than fitting, as it is the great Ullaroi overflow and ceremony site. The agreement-making meant many were to leave behind important lives entangled in other mobsâ lands, comfortable homes in shy rural townships, high-voltage hopes sparked across continents. But we were more than ready to walk away. Still, our assemblage was no small feat. Generations of Ullaroi
mari (men), wirringaa (women) and
birralii (chldren) numbering some 4000 surged into Dharriwaa to commit ourselves to the service of our homeland and to each other.
