GARNERVILLE - The North Rockland school district finally will receive state help in handling New York state s largest property tax payback, officials announced Tuesday. The total boost in state aid will give the district about $11.2 million more than originally anticipated. That, school officials say, will mean the proposed $237,491,866 budget going before voters on May 18 will carry a 0% tax levy increase. The extra aid, cobbled from two key sources in the state s recently finished budget, is roughly equivalent to the whopping debt service that the district continues to pay annually on the largest property tax settlement in state history to Mirant Corp. ....
