The species was identified by the members of ZSI and CUBE and the team comprises Vasanthakumar, Senthilkumar Palanisamy, Vinny R Peter, and Radheshyam M Sharma. COIMBATORE: During a field visit in 2015, a researcher from the Western regional centre of the Zoological Survey of India (ZSI) Durai Vasanthakumar and his team spotted a small bulge along the middle vein of one of the leaves of ziziphus mauritiana (Indian jujube) near Singanallur lake, Coimbatore. Little did they know that they had identified a new species, which would later be named after them. While collecting and preserving the leaves with moist cotton, they spotted a pupa beneath the leaf tissues. After comparing and conducting studies on multiple similar insects, the team suspected it to be a new species in 2017. They later confirmed it with the help of an Australian expert. ....
