Tuesday, October 26th, around 1:30 in the morning, Galesburg Police were dispatched to the 2200 block of Washington Street - Galesburg's Baymont Hotel for a battery in progress. The caller told police they believed a female subject was being battered by a male subject. The female had just been dropped off at the hotel for the night by police after a verbal dispute between her and her boyfriend. Both were intoxicated. An employee told police she watched on security video as the female: 21-year old Verenice Fernandez of Riverside, California, and the male: 19-year-old Dominic Donaldson of Galesburg physically fighting each other. The two eventually entered an elevator and police were waiting for them as they stopped on the first floor. Both Donaldson and Fernandez were taken into custody and transported to the Knox County Jail. Both were charged with domestic battery. Man pleads guilty of murder, battery in September stabbing GALESBURG The man accused of stabbing a Texas man in the parking lot of Galesburg s Baymont Hotel has now pled guilty. Julio Flores pled guilty Monday for second degree murder and aggravated battery. Per State’s Attorney Jeremy Karlin, the first charge is a Class 1 Felony punishable by 4-20 years, and the second is a Class 3 felony punishable from two to five years in prison. Flores will be sentenced in July. “After evaluating the potential testimony of witnesses and physical evidence and after discussing the case thoroughly with the decedent’s mother and investigators, I am satisfied that second degree murder is the most appropriate resolution of the case. The length of the sentence is now in Judge (Raymond) Cavanaugh’s hands,” Karlin said in an emailed statement Monday evening. ....
