i m wolf blitzer. we are watching breaking news, history unfolding in libya. we are following breaking news. we will be in the hours ahead as developments continue. it is early monday morning there in libya. moammar gadhafi is under siege from rebel forces. the rebels say they have two of moammar gadhafi s sons captured. we have pictures of saif. the international criminal court at the hague has an arrest warrant for him. now we are told in the heart of tripoli s green square which they have renamed martyr s square. we heard moments ago that some of them are pushing back with word that gadhafi forces may be going to reenter that part of the city. the government has been saying 1,300 people have been killed over the past 12 hours. our people on the ground have seen no evidence of that though. one of our reporters with the rebels say there are no signs of pro government forces on the streets of tripoli at the moment. our colleague matthew chance is holed up in a hotel in
in just a moment. libyan government concedes that parts of the city are no longer under its control. it says 1,300 people have been killed over the past 12 hours. a government spokesman has called for immediate negotiation and a halt to the rebel assault. the libyan rebels say some gadhafi loyalists are still holding out in the capital of tripoli. but let s go to my colleague matthew chance. he and other universities have been watching these fast-moving developments unfold at a hotel where they were. matthew, tell us what it s like where you are right now. we re worried but but set the scene. reporter: well, it s a very strange vantage point we have on this tripoli crisis. as the gun battles rage outside as crowds celebrate in some parts of tripoli, we re still confined to this hotel in the center of the city. at one point earlier this evening many of the government minders who have been assigned to us, first of all they started carrying weapons and as the evening progresse
for several weeks, was watching closely and determined abandoned buildings had become a command and control center for gadhafi troops. this they say was the target of the strike saturday, earlier today. gadhafi s forces say that there were 15 civilians killed, more than 20 wounded when those nato bombs hit a bakery and restaurant. again, nato says there is no under case that civilians were killed. they ve been very careful they say to avoid that. although they admit it did happen last sunday in brega in this airstrike they hit gadhafi forces who were using abandoned buildings a command and control center. earlier today, we went up near the frontlines. traveling with some people delivering food to some of the opposition fighters. we saw some of the weapons that gadhafi s forces are that rebel forces are using now that they ve seized from gadhafi s forces. we ll try to give you a look at that now.
