By the time the men’s clothing store Jonathan Reid closed its doors at the Hampshire Mall, Sidney R. Lancto had worked there nearly half his life.
Along the way he was a bit player in countless job interviews, proms, weddings and funerals, selling suits and renting tuxedos that would live on in frames and photo albums across the Pioneer Valley and beyond. As the store manager in Hadley and at a location at the Holyoke Mall in the early 1980s, he also hired hundreds of workers. He saw just as many go on to other jobs and other plans. ....
