FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Starting this week, people with conditions that put them at the highest risk from COVID-19 can now get the vaccine. Health conditions include people who are severely obese, which the state defines as a person with a body mass index of 40 or higher.
The city of San Francisco, however, decided to loosen the criteria, allowing anyone with a BMI of 30 or above to get vaccinated.
Across the Central Valley, more than 35% of adults are considered obese.
County health officials said despite that number, they do not plan to adjust the state s requirements, but if you think you re at-risk of becoming extremely sick from COVID-19, there is still a way you can qualify for the vaccine now. ....

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) People hoping to get an initial dose of the COVID-19 vaccine will have to wait as Fresno County health officials are seeing an overwhelming demand, but little supply.
We ve had to pause first dose clinics for now because of the lack of COVID vaccines coming into Fresno County, says Fresno County Public Health Division Manager Joe Prado.
Prado says based on the supply they have at this point, they ll be focusing on second dose appointments.
In the next two weeks, we re doing second dose clinics at the fairgrounds, and the Sierra Pacific Ortho Site as well, he said. There s not a lot of additional first dose clinics we can do at this time. ....

FRESNO, Calif. (KFSN) Farmworkers in Fresno County are already starting to get their doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, and health officials are working to get more vaccinated.
They ve kicked off their food and agriculture initiative in hopes of getting the vaccine to the most vulnerable.
We re testing models to see how to get vaccines to our food and ag population, says Fresno County Health Division Manager Joe Prado. We have a big effort with Foster Farms next week and plan to vaccinate 1,000 individuals.

Now, county supervisors are asking the state to make sure the local population gets its fair share of vaccines.
The state announced a plan Tuesday to streamline vaccine deliveries, and the woman in charge of the new effort says she ll address the shortage here in Fresno.
