A family dispute in Jackson has left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries, officials from the Jackson Police Department said Friday.
According to a statement from the department, the incident occurred in the 1500 block of Maria Drive at around 3:30 p.m. Department spokesperson Sam Brown said James Benton was shot once in the head by his brother, Fredrick Benton, while the two were sitting in a car and died at the scene.
Fredrick Benton was also shot once in the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Brown said.
The shooting marks Jackson s 25th homicide since the beginning of the year, according to records kept by the Clarion Ledger.
