Family dispute leaves one brother dead, another critical in Jackson

A family dispute in Jackson has left one man dead and another with life-threatening injuries, officials from the Jackson Police Department said Friday.
According to a statement from the department, the incident occurred in the 1500 block of Maria Drive at around 3:30 p.m. Department spokesperson Sam Brown said James Benton was shot once in the head by his brother, Fredrick Benton, while the two were sitting in a car and died at the scene.
Fredrick Benton was also shot once in the head and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Brown said.
The shooting marks Jackson's 25th homicide since the beginning of the year, according to records kept by the Clarion Ledger.
