Statesmen Split Doubleheader, Series with Clarke Peosta–The William Penn baseball team traveled to Peosta on Monday to complete their four game series against the Clarke Pride. Just like Sunday, the Statesmen split the double dip with Clarke on Monday, dropping the first contest 8-6 before earning an 11-5 victory in game 2. WPU 6 CU 8 After two low scoring affairs on Sunday, the Statesmen offense came hot out of the gates to begin the first game of Monday. Adrian Garcia (Sr., Ontario, Calif., Mechanical Engineering) got things started with a bullet single to right. Up stepped Tanner Bedier (So., Bondurant, Iowa, Sports Management), who blasted one down the right field line and had just enough height to get over the fence. His first home run of the year gave the Statesmen an early 2-0 lead. ....
Statesmen Start Conference Play Strong on the Road Canton, Mo.– The William Penn baseball team made the trip down to Canton over the weekend as they began Heart of America Athletic Conference play against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats. The Statesmen got a good start to their conference slate, taking three out of four versus the Wildcats. They split the first day with a 2-0 win and a 14-8 loss, then won both games on Saturday by scores of 12-5 and 11-3. WPU 2 C-SC 0 Chase Stratton (Sr., Clearfield, Utah, Sports Management) was on the mound to begin the team’s conference slate, and he continued his momentum from his previous two starts as he held the Wildcats scoreless through three innings, retiring the first seven batters he faced before a runner reached on an error. The error proved harmless for the Statesmen, as the next two batters were set down with ease to keep the hosts off the board. ....
Statesmen Split Doubleheader Versus Dakota Wesleyan Crete, Neb.– Fresh off their weekend series, the William Penn baseball team was back in action, this time for a doubleheader against the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers. The Statesmen dropped the opening contest by a score of 2-0, but rebounded nicely for a 4-3 win in the afternoon. WPU 0 DWU 2 The first contest was quiet on both fronts, as both starters did a phenomenal job of limiting their respective opposition. Jacob Wiechmann got the nod to open Monday’s action, limiting the Tigers to only four base runners in the game. Unfortunately, three of those hits came in the third inning as Dakota Wesleyan was able to push across two runs, and that was the end of the game’s scoring as the contest ended in a 2-0 loss for the Statesmen. ....
