A NORTH Hampshire school has made a huge donation to West Berks Foodbank after running a reverse advent calendar through December.
Woolton Hill Junior School ran the calendar from the first of December until last Friday, when term ended, with children encouraged to take a specific item of food on each day.
Some brought the food each day, while others donated a week’s-worth in one go.
Food items included jam on December 1, pasta sauce on December 2 and baked beans on December 3, and the calendar ended with donations of toiletries. ....

Donations flood in as generous members of the community contribute to help those worse off

IN November 2019, West Berks Foodbank was operating with a team of around 12 people and received 3.9 tonnes of food in donations.
Fast forward 12 months, more than 90 people have signed up to volunteer for the charity and last month it received more than 18 tonnes of food to be given to people in need.
It has been a challenging year for all, but at the same time the coronavirus pandemic has given communities the opportunity to really pull together and support everyone in their time of need. ....
