Local folk donate whopping £420,000 to Greenham Trust coronavirus appeal Fundraising project was launched in March John Garvey ); GENEROUS West Berkshire folk have stumped up a whopping £420,000 since Greenham Trust launched its Coronavirus Emergency Appeal in March. The donations came from private individuals and businesses and has enabled funding to be given to the following organisations which help those impacted by the virus: £48,688 to Fair Close Centre (Age UK) for the continuation and expansion of the meals on wheels service and a further £14,358 to equip the on-site restaurant and to make it Covid-19 secure. £40,559 to Newbury Community Resource Centre to provide essential household goods to families in need and a further £18,244 for telephone support, food parcels and other deliveries. ....
North Hampshire schoolchildren make special West Berkshire Foodbank donation It’s about getting the message out there and starting young Jonathan Ashby ); A NORTH Hampshire school has made a huge donation to West Berks Foodbank after running a reverse advent calendar through December. Woolton Hill Junior School ran the calendar from the first of December until last Friday, when term ended, with children encouraged to take a specific item of food on each day. Some brought the food each day, while others donated a week’s-worth in one go. Food items included jam on December 1, pasta sauce on December 2 and baked beans on December 3, and the calendar ended with donations of toiletries. ....
Newbury MG Owners Club drives hard to meet donation target to Cancer Research UK Club donates more than £1,300 to cancer charity Jonathan Ashby ); NEWBURY MG Owners Club has donated more than £1,300 to Cancer Research UK following a series of fundraisers. The club raised money for the charity during 2019 and early 2020, through raffles and a slimming group set up within the membership, which raised money by way of fines. The club, the Newbury branch of the classic car organisation, realised that driving and social activities would be severely curtailed this year due to the coronavirus outbreak and that there wouldn’t be opportunities to raise funds to meet its £1,000 target for the charity. ....

The Magic Porridge Pot sprang to mind, but some quick-thinking and generous help from our delivery partner Swift turned the cereal crisis into a breakfast bonanza for local charities and schools. When the original Two Ts Fund was started by third NWN editor Frank Stillman in the late 1800s, it delivered either a packet of tea or a tin of tobacco to elderly people in Newbury leading up to Christmas – depending, of course, on whether they were a lady or gentleman. ....
Community rallies around West Berkshire Foodbank Donations flood in as generous members of the community contribute to help those worse off Jonathan Ashby ); IN November 2019, West Berks Foodbank was operating with a team of around 12 people and received 3.9 tonnes of food in donations. Fast forward 12 months, more than 90 people have signed up to volunteer for the charity and last month it received more than 18 tonnes of food to be given to people in need. It has been a challenging year for all, but at the same time the coronavirus pandemic has given communities the opportunity to really pull together and support everyone in their time of need. ....
