November 7: Bootlegging Law and Referendum

North Dakota enacted prohibition within its borders upon entering as a state in 1889. Of course, many continued to illegally sell and transport liquor. In March 1915, the North Dakota legislature approved House Bill 114, which defined the crime of bootlegging and clarified the punishment for violations.

T.B. Walker's Sawmill in Grand Forks | Prairie Public Broadcasting

6/10/2010: It is quite surprising to find that Grand Forks once played a major role in the lumber industry, but from 1886 to 1892, one of T.B. Walker's sawmills was located on the banks of the Red River just south of the Kennedy Bridge.

2/6/2008: In 1904 on this day, at 1:05 to the minute, the steamship "Dakota" was launched in New London, Connecticut. It was proclaimed to be the "largest steamship in the world."
