Winter in North Dakota has a history of some great experiences and traditions. During the month of January, Dakota Datebook has celebrated winter in conjunction with the Northern Plains National Heritage Area and the Sons of Norway Sverdrup Lodge, as part of the inaugural \“Vinterfest\” a celebration of all things winter. Today’s topic is skiing.
Later on in the month of September, the 44th annual Norsk Hostfest will be taking place in Minot. However, it's important to note that the event is also a time to honor the Scandinavian heroes who made an impact on both North Dakota and the rest of the world. One of these individuals Sondre Norheim is honored every year at the Hostfest with a wreath-laying ceremony.
