The DA40 Diamond Star aircraft plummeted into the sea 8 miles off Lanai, the coast guard said in a statement. The two were rescued by an Air Station Barbers Point MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew within an hour after they crashed, the coast guard said, and brought them to emergency services at the air station.
