Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Mar 17, 2021 10:29 AM A trial date was set Wednesday morning in Christian Circuit Court for 21-year old Tyrese Hollowell, the man charged with the August 14 shooting death of 39-year old Tiffany Hinton Gray on East First Street. Defense attorney Doug Moore told Judge John Atkins that it’s appearing less likely that he and the Commonwealth will reach a plea agreement and asked to schedule a jury trial. Judge Atkins scheduled trial for October 25. Hollowell is also charged with first-degree assault in connection with the shooting that also sent 17-year old Kanina Willingham to a Nashville hospital with severe injuries. ....
The Elizabeth Stone Educational Fund is still accepting scholarship applications from local students in Christian County. Mike Chadwell with First Christian Church Board of Trustees appeared on WHOP recently and says the clock is winding down on getting those applications in, since the deadline is March 31 for no just graduating seniors, but non-traditional students as well. The $5,000 scholarships are paid at $1,250 per semester for four semesters and last year the Elizabeth Stone Fund awarded $55,000 in scholarships to local students. Student loans are also available from the Elizabeth Stone Fund, which Chadwell says it how the program began, which was started by Dr. James Edward Stone in 1952 in honor of his wife. ....

Jackson, a 2017 first-round pick, was to make 10.2-million dollars this season, while Kelly’s release freed up about 3.4-million in cap space. Meanwhile, Tennessee signed veteran cornerback Janoris Jenkins, who was released by the New Orleans Saints. As the strong low pressure storm system moves up towards the Ohio River Valley, our first chance of widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms will move through this afternoon. Then after a brief dry period, the second wave of scattered rain and maybe thunderstorms will roll through tonight and tomorrow morning. Thursday will be a rather raw day with an overcast sky, lingering rain, and temperatures falling back into the low to mid 40’s.
