The virus has caused 150,000 hospitalizations and 9,300 deaths. the number of flu vaccines distributed at this point continues to lag behind the past two years. the cdc finds covid is also showing signs of a winter comeback. 14% of the u.s. is in a high transmission covid area, but that s higher than last week. cnn s medical correspondent is with us now. let s start with the flu numbers. they show young children are being hit hard. what do they show? yes, victor, new cdc data suggests flu activity is still high but may be declining in some areas. last week about 23,500 people were admitted with the flu, which was a slight drop from the week before. overall, the flu hospitalization rate is the highest in a decade. the hospitalization rate is highest among seniors and young kids under 5, as you mentioned. ....

Think they need it and 26% of democrats said that they don t think they need it. the republican one, i have to say, ana, didn t surprise me. the democratic one did. i was surprised it was so high. democrats were enthusiastic about covid vaccinations so to see them meh about this one really does, i think, tell you something. there is the vaccine fatigue setting in, i think, across the board. what about the flu? what are the latest numbers showing there? it s interesting so the cdc comes out with new flu numbers every friday and working hard to see what those say. for the first time this season we re actually seeing a drop in flu numbers that flu numbers went down 10% when you look at last week compared to the week before. but and i m going to say a huge but here not going to celebrate, not going to say maybe flu has peaked and coming down, the reason why it could go right back up the week after. you never know. one week of a drop does not mean that things are on their way ....

Being with us. first i want to touch on the case loads, on hospitals where you are and hospitals across the country. what are you seeing right now? well, luckily for us, covid cases around the united states have remained relatively stable for the next few months. we are not seeing signs of the surge we have experienced over the last two years, but i cannot say the same as it relates to rsv and the flu. we are seeing unprecedented numbers of rsv in this time of year. not only are the cases higher than we re used to seeing, the rate of rise is also a lot quicker than we are used to. the positive news there is that in many cases across the country, texas being one of them, rsv does seem to be on a bit of a down trend. here we had a 26% positivity rate for rsv in october. at the end of last week, that was down to 15%, so headed in the right direction. not quite the same for the flu, however. we haven t seen flu numbers like we re experiencing currently ....
