Six Noles Named to Respective National Teams

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - Six Florida State soccer players were named to their respective national teams this past week. Jody Brown (Jamaica), Onyi Echegini (Nigeria) and Heather Payne (Ireland) were each named to their respective country's national teams. Taylor Huff and Heather Payne were each named to the US Under-23 Youth National, and Maria Alagoa was named to Portugal's Under-23 Youth National Team.    

Nighswonger Named ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year; Noles Put Program Record 13 Players on ACC All-Academic Team

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Jenna Nighswonger was named the ACC Scholar-Athlete of the year, and a program-high thirteen Florida State soccer players earned a spot on the All-ACC Academic Team on Wednesday. Leading the group was two-time honorees Lauren Flynn,  Nighswonger, Beata Olsson, Maria Alagoa, Clara Robbins and Cristina Roque. Joining them are defenders Heather Gilchrist and Sophia Nguyen, midfielders Ran Iwai and Leilanni Nesbeth, and forwards Emma Bissell, Olivia Garcia, and Kaitlyn Zipay. Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements – including playing in at least 50 percent of a teams games – during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team. Three Noles Drafted in the First Round of the NWSL Draft

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Garnet and Gold were well represented Thursday night at the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) draft as three former Florida State Soccer players were selected in the first round of the draft. Emily Madril was selected third overall by the Orlando Pride. Jenna Nighswonger immediately followed her as she was selected by the NY/NJ Gotham. The North Carolina Courage selected Clara Robbins with the ninth overall pick. It's a great night to be a Nole. All three players have worked tirelessly to get themselves to this moment. They have all gone through hard times, but have persevered through it all. Having all three of them having their names called in the first round is truly special, head soccer coach Brian Pensky said.  

Noles Add Claire Rain to 2023 Squad

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida State Seminole soccer team added another key transfer from Tennessee on Friday afternoon as Claire Rain signed with the Seminoles. Rain, a former All-SEC Freshman honoree, is the second Tennessee Volunteer to transfer to the Seminoles joining former teammate Taylor Huff. A primary defender during the 2022 season, Rain started all 19 matches for Tennessee and played the second-most minutes on the team. She was a key piece to the Lady Vols' defense that had a shutout streak over the span of eight games in the 2022 season. Rain had one assist on the year which was to now Seminole teammate Huff against No. 5 Duke on Aug. 25. During her freshman season in 2021, Rain tallied two goals and six assists on her way to being named to the All-SEC Freshman Team. She appeared in all 23 games as a freshman and made 22 starts for the Lady Vols. After the season, Rain was No. 32 on Top Drawer Soccer's Top 100 Freshman list. Rain is a Tampa, Fla., native where
