Airplane makes emergency landing in Venice pond; 1 person hospitalized

One person was hospitalized after a small airplane crashed into a pond in Venice on Saturday evening, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office reported.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the plane, reporting engine problems, made an emergency landing at about 5:15 p.m. in a pond in the 490 block of Derbyshire Drive in the Pelican Pointe Golf and Country Club.
Two people were on board the plane. One was hospitalized for observation.
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the plane is a 2006 Cessna 172S single-engine aircraft registered to Florida Flight Training Center in Venice.
