misguided, i think a young man who is impressionable. reporter: the 21-year-old nijeer yan admitted he tried to bring down a plane. in a statement he read aloud in clear english, abdulmutallab told the court he wanted to take down the plane to fulfill a religious obligation, participate in jihad and to retaliate against the u.s. for its relationship with israel. and for killing his brothers and sisters worldwide. reporter: his lawyer says they don t know why he pled guilty. but the prosecution was led to declare a number guilty. he did the right thing by pleading guilty. he needs to be responsible for what he did. accountable for it. and he needs to be punished and rehabilitated. reporter: abdulmutallab s statement ended with a threat, that the u.s. will eventually pay for what it has done. in detroit, manuel gallegus, wjz eyewitness news. attorney general eric holder says today s outcome shows u.s. courts are effective in fighting terrorism and keeping americ ....

thunderstorm warnings lift. moving toward easton. and i m sorry, toward frederick. and down toward easton. still have a cell in place. that is bringing heavy storms and rain down there. this has the potential for hail. but again, the warnings have now been lifted. our severe weather potential is still in place for the afternoon and evening. so as a result, we still have a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for the entire state until tonight. until just around 10:00 or so. then we have exactly what you re seeing there is excessive heat warning in effect for much of the area, just north of the beltway, up and down the 95 corridor again. we ll be talking about that through the afternoon. for a little more on how it all played out, we re going to send it to meteorologist bernadette woods. that s right, tim. well, as far as numbers go, we ve gotten up there once again this afternoon. we re waiting for the forecast to come in. but as of 3:00, 97 degrees. and that ties the ....
