The state’s commercial eviction moratorium has been extended until August 31 Restaurants, bars, and other small businesses in New York state are now protected from eviction through August 31, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced on Tuesday. Under the legislation, business owners with fewer than 50 employees cannot be evicted, so long as they provide documentation that they have faced financial hardship during the pandemic. This is at least the seventh time the governor has extended the state’s temporary eviction moratorium since the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020. The latest round of protections expired on May 1, although a nationwide moratorium on evictions issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention remains in place until June 30. ....
