Bengali star Prosenjit Chatterjee, filmmaker Srijit Mukherji and actor Rahul Bose on Thursday paid tributes to celebrated filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta, who passed away due to age related ailments.Â The 77-year-old national award-winning director, who had been battling kidney ailments for quite some time, died at his residence here early on Thursday following a cardiac arrest, his family members said.Â
Dasgupta began his career as a lecturer in a college before taking a plunge into filmmaking in the 70s, after having enrolled his name as a member of Calcutta Film Society.Â Some of his notable films include Neem Annapurna , Grihajuddha , Bagh Bahadur , Tahader Katha , Charachar , Lal Darja , Uttara , Swapner Din , Kaalpurush and Janala .Â Dasgupta had also directed Hindi films Andhi Gali and Anwar Ka Ajab Kissa . ....

Actors from Bollywood and Bengali cinema took to social media on Thursday to mourn the death of legendary filmmaker Buddhadeb Dasgupta and recall their experiences of being directed by him.

Sharing a throwback black and white photograph with the late filmmaker from one of his shoots, Bollywood veteran Deepti Naval posted on Facebook: “Very saddened to hear about the sudden demise of our dear dear Buddhadev Dasgupta – one of the finest directors of Bengali cinema. I had the good fortune of working with him in a Hindi film called ‘Andhi Gali’ and since have had a huge regard for Buddhadeb Dasgupta not only as a fine director but also as an extremely sensitive poet and a wonderful, gentle human being. My deepest condolences to Buddha Da’s family – I pray that his soul rest in peace.” ....
